About this course
This 28-32 week program provides basic theory and hands-on training for the brick and stone masonry field and introduction to refractory and restoration.
The program is designed to give students safety training and an opportunity to strengthen their math and communication skills through academic upgrading if required.
Students will learn to safely and properly operate hand and power tools as well as equipment found on the construction site.They will have opportunities to use masonry materials and supplies and to practice the selection, preparation and installation of masonry materials.
There is a PAID WORK PLACEMENT included in the program, where students will be temporarily matched with an employer in the masonry industry for a minimum of 8 weeks or 280 hours to a maximum of 12 weeks or 420 hours.
What is Masonry?
Masonry, aka brick and stone work, is one of the oldest surviving crafts in the world.
In fact, many of the world’s wonders are masonry creations, including the Egyptian Pyramids, Roman Coliseum, Taj Mahal, and Great Wall of China, and are admired for their outstanding architectural achievements.

How long is the Pre-Apprenticeship Program?
20 weeks in-school no paid training + 8 to12 weeks paid work placement training = 28 to 32 weeks total
When does it start and what are the hours?
The class will start in March/May 2020 (Exact Dates are to be determined)
The 20 weeks in-school training will be Monday to Thursday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
The 8 to 12 weeks paid work placement will be based on your Employer’s Schedule, which would typically be
Monday to Thursday 7am to 4pm and Fridays 7am to 1:30pm (About 40 hours a week)
How can I apply for the Pre-Apprenticeship Program?

- Applicants must complete an Application/Assessment (Handed out at the Info Session)
- Interviews will be arranged once Application/Assessments are received

What do I need to apply for Pre-Apprenticeship?
You must be:
- 18 yrs. old and over
- Have a Social Insurance Number
- Have Grade 8 or higher education from Canada
- Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident
- Not in another full-time program/education
- Interested in masonry!
