If you are a registered apprentice and want to improve your skills for laying units, you can come in on a day you are not working to practice and get help from the OMTC instructor.  For example, this could apply to:

• OYAP participants,
• First year apprentices that want to brush up on block laying skills before the Level 2 assessment. If you are planning to attend the next Level 2 session, your assessment could be done while you doing your practice sessions.
• As a registered apprentice, if you did not pass a previous level due to hands on skills, you can work to improve those skills and try to get a pass for that skill. Or you can start a small project that would be part of your next level.  To do this you will need to speak to the instructor and get approval.
• If you came through the non- Level 1 Pre-apprenticeship program and want to brush up your skills before entering Level 1
• If you have been working predominantly in one area of the trade (i.e., restoration) and want to improve your red-brick skills

For registered apprentices there is no set curriculum to work through, any instruction you receive will be based on the skills you are looking to improve.  You will need to discuss your objective for the practice training with the instructor so that they know what your objectives are.  This will make it easier for the instructor to assist you.

There are no set number of hours you have to complete, but you will be limited to 10 hour time slots initially.  If you wish to continue practicing after you have reached the limit, you will need to meet with the instructor or Training Director to extend your access.

• If you are a journeyperson, you need to provide a letter from the union indicating how many hours you have completed.
• If you have attended Pre-App, you need to provide your completion letter from the training school.

How to register for the program

 

As an apprentice you will have to fill out the registration form click here to get your username and password for the booking system.  You will need to enter your apprenticeship number information (including registration #) and once you complete the form hit “submit”.  If all the information in the form is complete, you will be emailed your username and password and you will be able to access the booking system.

Before you can log on for the first time you will be directed to review the OMTC policies for this program and sign-off on the general Code of Conduct for anyone training at OMTC (if you have not done so already).
